Wi-Fi Not Working on Windows 11? Start Here

When Wi-Fi stops working, the first job is to find out whether the problem affects just your Windows 11 PC or the whole network. Try the checks below in order, and test the connection after each one.

1. Check Wi-Fi and Airplane mode

  • Select the network icon on the taskbar and make sure Wi-Fi is turned on.
  • Make sure Airplane mode is off.
  • Check that you are connecting to the correct network and enter the password again if Windows asks.
  • Restart your PC if the Wi-Fi controls appear stuck or the issue began after a recent change.

2. See whether other devices can connect

Try a phone or another computer on the same Wi-Fi network. If several devices cannot connect, the issue may be the router or your internet service. If other devices work normally, focus on the Windows PC.

3. Restart the router only if needed

If multiple devices are affected, follow your router manufacturer’s instructions to restart it. Let other people using the network know first, because their connections will drop temporarily. Do not press the router’s factory-reset button as a troubleshooting shortcut; a factory reset can erase network settings.

4. Run Windows network help

Open Settings → Network & internet and look for the network troubleshooter, or open the Get Help app and search for Wi-Fi troubleshooting. Follow the prompts and note any error message. Menu names can change with Windows updates.

5. Use network reset only as a last resort

If simpler checks fail, review Microsoft’s guidance before trying a network reset. It removes and reinstalls network adapters and may require you to set up network connections or related software again. Make sure you know your Wi-Fi password and understand the steps before proceeding. Start with Microsoft’s official Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.

When to get more help

If your PC cannot see any Wi-Fi networks, the Wi-Fi option is missing, or the issue follows the computer across different networks, check the PC manufacturer’s support guidance. If only one network fails, contact the network administrator or internet provider.

Tip: When asking for help, include whether other devices connect, whether your PC can see the network, and any exact Windows error message. This narrows down the likely cause.
