How to Find Out Which Version of Windows You Have

Knowing your Windows version helps you follow the right instructions and find compatible software or drivers. It only takes a few moments to check.

## Method 1: Use Settings On Windows 11, open Settings → System → About. Look under Windows specifications for the edition, version, and OS build. On Windows 10, open Settings → System → About and look for the same Windows specifications section.

## Method 2: Use the winver command Press Windows key + R to open Run, type `winver`, and press Enter. A window will show the Windows version and build information.

## What the details mean - Edition: Home, Pro, or another edition. - Version: The feature-release version installed. - OS build: A more specific build number that can help support staff identify updates. - System type: In Settings, this can tell you whether Windows is 64-bit and provide processor information useful when choosing compatible software.

## Why this matters Different Windows versions can have different menu names and support status. Before following a tutorial, check that it applies to your version. When downloading drivers, use the official PC or component manufacturer's website and match the model and Windows version.

## A security note about Windows 10 Microsoft support for Windows 10 ended on October 14, 2025. Some devices may have access to separate extended security options, but standard free support and updates have ended. Check Microsoft's current guidance to understand your options.
